My name is DeJuan Fulghum and I am a bi-racial Student-Athlete attending Texas Southern University. My Mother is African-American and my Father is Caucasian. Growing up I did not understand the importance of my race and how I have ancestors that were slaves on one side while my Caucasian ancestors were spraying African-Americans with fire hoses on the other side. From then and now made me realize that Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech “I have a Dream” came true and I am living proof of that. Martin Luther King Jr. motivates me to be a history maker also and I am here on this earth to make a difference. When you see me I will not be the stereotypical young, black male. My pants will be pulled up, I will be well-groomed, my English is proper and I will answer you “no sir, yes sir”. I am graduating early with a degree in Accounting and will start my Masters program in the fall of 2010 while I finish my last season of College Football. My name is DeJuan Fulghum and I am Black History!
